Lisa Thompson, M.S. LMFT
EMDR, Couples & Trauma Therapist
Lisa Thompson is an experienced Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) who has been helping individuals, couples, teens, and families since 2012. She specializes in EMDR therapy, trauma, anxiety, depression, couples therapy, and relationship concerns, providing both in-person therapy in Hampstead, North Carolina, and virtual therapy throughout North Carolina and Massachusetts.
Lisa is EMDRIA Certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and works with clients who are ready to address traumatic experiences, difficult memories, anxiety, and patterns that continue to affect how they feel and function in the present. She integrates EMDR with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, creative and art-based interventions, and other approaches based on each client's individual needs.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Lisa also has extensive experience working with couples and relationship issues. With training in the Gottman Method, she
helps couples better understand the patterns affecting their relationship, strengthen communication, navigate conflict, and rebuild emotional connection.
Lisa understands that relationships don't exist in a vacuum. Stress, trauma, family history, anxiety, major life changes, and individual mental health can all affect the way we connect with the people closest to us. Her background allows her to consider both the individual and the relationships surrounding them.
Whether she's working with an individual processing trauma, a couple feeling disconnected, a teenager struggling with anxiety, or a family navigating a difficult season, Lisa brings a compassionate, experienced, and nonjudgmental presence to the therapy room.
At the center of Lisa's work is creating an environment where clients feel safe, respected, and genuinely heard. She works collaboratively with clients to identify what's causing distress, clarify what they want to change, and develop meaningful strategies for moving forward.
Lisa is currently accepting new clients for in-person therapy in Hampstead, NC, as well as online therapy throughout North Carolina and Massachusetts.
